Maybe I am missing something on Cains 9-9-9 plan.

I hear him talking about a 9% Value added tax. I realise some states have no sales tax, but what about those who do. Our tax rate is 9+%. In his plan any new purchase in Rapides Parish for instance would be taxed at close to 20%.

Anyone thought about that or is it just me?

I do not recall anyone talking about that point at all.

Maybe I missed the explanation?

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s race. Really one question.

Not touting either one. Hilton or Wagner. We know why Baden was put in the race. That is an age-old political move  that muddies the water every time….

The burning question is why is Hilton really running?  There is more to this than crime statics my friends.

I like them both.. But there is a manure pile with something under it out there…I think it is getting ready to explode.

Let the slinging begin.

The banner for Genius Antiques.

Just a short post on that advertisement that runs on , normally the right hand side of the blog.

This blog is written by actually several people.  One of them is involved in Genius Antiques.  They have no shop in town.  Seldom do they sell here in Alexandria. Most of their trade is done in the U.S. and foreign countries.

Genius Antiques for over 30 years did  Antique shows all over the United States.

Actually ran the wheels off three  large motorhomes.  They have a large stock left of many different types of items..One of their main stock of items is military medals and patches from before WW-1 to the 1970′s.   They have a  large stock of WW-2 German and also Imperial German items..,,No gun’s …..Visit their website by clicking on the Genius Antique banner or go to www.genius-antiques.com.  Their prices are more than fair and in most cases, unlike other antique dealers because they are going out of business, they will bargain. No sales will be made other than by mail and on the site. If you see something you would like..email them first and  arrangements can be made for  your local purchase. If you are looking for something other than furniture, send them an email and let them know your wants. They may have it. Check out the online shop.  I must make this comment…They do not buy..they sell only.

Our Alexandria City Halls..Good to beautiful to useless…..

We have had some interesting city hall’s to serve our city government over the years..

This one was built in 1857 and survived the Civil war with occupation by the Union Army and the Confederate Army.

Next came a beautiful building on the block. A well landscaped ground surrounding it.

Shown is the dedication ceremony and the building in the 1940′s.

Next the ugly box that today is the roach motel for our elected city officials…

Not much left to say is there?

Alex

Our second City Hall 1909.

Our roach motel today.

We have survived so much to have so little…I think we need to empty the roach motel and start over..or is it too late?

Our word for the day.

Ineptocracy (in-ept-o-cra-cy) – a system of government where the least
capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and
where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or
succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the
confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

Could not resist this post.

I am sorry..this was just too easy…

Beautiful Red River view.

Heavy traffic..(as shown.)

Easy access

Smoking ban and other things.

I will put my two cents in on the smoking ban in bars etc:

I do not smoke. Quit about 30 years ago.  Still ended up with a smoking related illness. (You will suffer from some form of smoking related ilness at some point in time, no matter what you think.)  That’s just a fact of life…Oh and if you  are working in a bar..remember, you have the right to quit and move on to perhaps a job where thay do not smoke..Thats your choice….

The way I handle it is..If someone approaches me who reeks of tobacco smells, I just rudely say, you smell like a rotting  pig.. Please move away from me and stay at least six feet.  We can have our conversation from that distance. If you choose to smoke fine. That is your problem. Just stay away from me.

As far as agreeing or disagreeing with the ban on smoking in bars…I do not frequent them so it has no effect on me. I take a neutral stance.

Now for the “other thing.”  First time in quite a while I have seen the entire city council agree on anything.

Sad that it could not have been on something important for the city’s progress..

Seems to me they stink as much as the smoking ban ordnance.
