Mayor veto’s new Alexandria, Louisiana city budget.

Alexandria’s Mayor has vetoed the proposed City budget.

City council presented their version of the  budget..Mayor says no.

City council president refuses to meet, supposedly with mayor.

Simple as that. Neither side seems willing to work together for any type of compromise.

We seem to have an ineffective city government and the citizens of Alexandria seem unwilling to hold both divisions of city government’s feet to the fire.

You are supposed to work together, not go in opposite directions.

But that seems to be the status quo.

This was not necessary, but they all seem unwilling to communicate with each other….I really do not think you can pin the failure on one or the other..They BOTH are at fault.

Now the  mayor is in a threatening mode.

It has been reported the city council will try to over-ride the Mayors veto.

The just over 20% of registered voters who turned out to elect part of this bunch ..Hello! it’s almost summer and you are still in hibernation?

We did not elect these people to run over us with what ever agenda they have in mind at the moment!

We elected them to run our city and run it effectively, NOT play with their pet ..petty ass vested interest’s!

Wow!

We deserve better than this!!!

(For in-depth detail, all you need to do is view the various Council meetings and Mayors briefings on local channel four.. They speak for themselves….)

City of Alexandria.

All the power to do the work. (But)

No water in the boiler. No fuel in the tender. No engineer in the cab.

All the potential in the world and no way to move.

Just rusting away.

Hard to believe the first railroad west of the Mississippi, started in this town, in 1853. (Gosh, other towns could make millions of dollars off that angle .)

Oh well, lets play a round of golf.

(afterthought.) Happy Easter!

Alexandria’s city government hard at work.

Spending  a lot of time and energy for ..nada…zip…nothing.

Is there such a thing as repetitive stupidity?

Should Main Street become Second Street again?

Of course it should. Why not revert back to its original name?

I think it is a great idea. It was only changed to Main Street for commercial reasons when that part of town was flourishing.

Way back in time, the levee was First street and Main was second.

Whats your opinion?

I realize it accomplishes nothing more that correcting an old mistake.

How we do things in Alexandria, La.

Not really!

It’s called exaggerate.

When politicians do it, what is it called?

Alex

Alexandria’s City Budget.

Now if I were mayor or a city councilman, God forbid that I were.  I would work for perhaps just gas money or expenses. I know.  That’s a grand and absurd gesture, but that’s just the way I think.  I would have the city well-being in my mind. (Another stupid statement.)

Now there is talk of holidays and cuts for the city workers.

Let me ask this totally unique question.

Why is it when the talk of cutting cost or saving money on a tight budget, NO one in middle management or the upper echelon ever, ever even thinks about cutting their salary or expenses. Never, never, ever!

Those that do the day-to-day essential work to keep the city running stand at the bottom of the privy while the top dogs deposit their waste on their heads.

What am I thinking?

Shame on you Alex!

NO mayor or city councilman or assistant would ever, ever make a sacrifice for their beloved city!

Alex, you are insane!

Hey if the little guy can get the shaft, why not  the High Grand Poobah and his Court of Jesters?

Once again..The Bentley Hotel..Joe Bentley spinning in his grave.

The Bentley hotel has become a scared and beat up football.  What was once a grand hotel has been  disfigured by its current owner and is being

tossed around like  a cow chip by the City of Alexandria.

Lines are repeatedly being drawn in the sand over and over again.

The sound of “give us just a little more time” is being heard over and over again.

If the hotel deal ever is completed, the city of Alexandria plans to send up a helicopter and drop millions of dollars on the building…thus effectly placing it in an even more overvalued position.

Oh, and  boutique  is just a fancy buzz word. Nothing more..

Please forgive us Joe Bently.

Common business sense has totally evaded everyone connected with your wonderful old establishment.

I can hear old Joe in the lobby hollering, “What in the hell is going on?”

But there is no answer.

Just the pitter-patter of rodent feet..

What continues to befuddle me about Central Louisiana.

At times, I grow weary of even writing. It seems no one gives a rat’s ass about pushing this area out of the 1950′s into the 2000′s.

We have no game plan. We have no champion. There is a lot of posturing and jackass braying, but no forward charge.

Our Mayor is doing nothing.

Our City Council is a big zero.

The Tourist Commission  has no idea of what it is supposed to do.

Convention  group  suffers from low self-esteem.

None of these group’s or individuals even begin to think outside the box, so to speak.

There is a world outside of Louisiana.  I do not think they know that.

You do not gain tourism by small advertisements in limited circulation pamphlets.

You do not gain industry by getting featured on a second-rate TV show.

Any initial results from that was gone and forgotten in a week’s time.

A community has to be aggressive, not apologetic.

Positive, not negative…

Here in Central Louisiana we have a rich theatre of fantastic history to draw from…and all we do is scribble.

The only real antique show this year in Alexandria. Update

Only big antique show this year.

Dealers from all over the United States.  Many dealers that did the now defunct So Rare Antique Show.  Something for everyone.  Please come out and support something more than a tractor pull or midget wrestling. Lets pack the exhibit building so they will come back next year.

See you there!

It was a fantastic show.  Lots of dealers. Antiques, Tools, Military stuff, jewelry, everything for both men and women.

Very low attendance.  I guess everyone went to Walmart or the Dollar store..

Change of pace. A soldiers life in 1943 Alexandria, La.

Sometimes if you know where the picture was taken even if you have no idea who the soldiers are, it can become special.

Fountain at Alexandria Zoo.

Life could be great or terrifying.

Depended on where you were back then.

I hope they all made it.

Just a little nostalgia.
