From a 1955 Calendar..The Meeker Sugar Mill.

I came across this a while back. It was in a collection of items from a Great Aunt.

Once was on a calendar.

The Meeker Sugar Mill at the beginning of its end so to speak.

Not much left today. Just the shell.

Another landmark slowly disappearing..

I drove through downtown Alexandria Saturday Night.

I am sick and tired of hearing negative comments about downtown Alexandria.

In conversations with different people from all walks of life I hear the same thing over and over!.

It’s dangerous.”  “I am scared of the element that frequents the area.”

“I keep my car  doors locked” “I just can not drive through that part of town.”

One of the biggest misconceptions that is stagnating the downtown area is   Ignorance…It seems that in the 30+ demographic, everyone is living in the past.

I have purposely taken  at least five or six trips to the downtown area during the past few weeks after dark….

2nd street to Lee to 9th street to  Rapides, all through out the town center…….

In those trips after dark I have seen MAYBE 2 or 3 people..

To make it more obscene, I am the only automobile on the street!”

I could stand on any street corner and literally shoot a rifle down any street and just hit the levee. No one would be endangered because there is no  life in the area….

How can it be dangerous??

But the myth  remains in place…

Sad how the distant past affects the present..

I would post a photograph, but there is nothing to see……………………………………………
