Alexandria’s Past. Or maybe future. The upcoming elections.

I do not work for the city of Alexandria in any political or commercial way what so ever. I love Alexandria because I was born and have lived here for , lets say 50+ years to be conservative.

I have watched city activities in politics and business. I have seen corrupt politicians get away with things short of murder. I have seen and known business men and women come and go. I know honest sincere folks who care about our town. I know slime balls who are only interested in making a fast buck and taking every poor soul they can. (They would throw you under the nearest ATRANS bus without blinking an eye.) I count as my friends, Construction workers, waiters, doctors, all types, lawyers, judges, a broad spectrum. I can carry on an intelligent discourse with all of them and keep their attention.

At this point in time Alexandria needs to break loose from its past and try to leap into the present day world. The current administration has tried to do this in their misguided way. We have all seen some accomplishments and progress made in the past almost four years. (Yes, I also know some stupid asinine projects have also been  shoved in our craws.) That’s’ government. Always will be that way.

To interject race into the mix is nothing short of horrendous stupidity. That of course IS  being done to the absolute glee of many.

I know personally many of the city officials. I respect a few and take the others with more than a grain of salt.  Let’s face it we have a few intelligent officials and many more that would be hard pressed to tackle anything other than their day-to-day mundane routine. (and do the job poorly, at best.)

Our current Mayor has a rather unlikable personality. (tends to talk down and over ride) But everyone has some type of personality problem.

You have to overlook this and look at his ability, not  personality.

At this point I am going to go with the current regime. The status quo. I see no wisdom in the other candidates. They are in the fray for the wrong reasons.  (Devine intervention or revenge or spite or just misguided sheep are not reasons for running for office.)

If you progress the city and get a little something on the side, that’s good.  If you do not show progress and gain something on the side, that’s bad.

Forget about all the vitriol and nay sayers. When you go into that booth and close the curtain, make damn sure it’s with a clear level look at our future. (If there is to be one.)

Think about what HAS been done, not what someone promises to MAYBE do!

More photo’s from Afghanistan.

Unknown location. Views of everyday life in a army compond.

This is how they live over there.

The hills or mountains in the background serve as cover for the bad guy’s  to

launch rockets almost every day that seldom hit their target, thankfully.

But as seen in an earlier post they sometimes make it and do damage.

Speaks for itself….

1919 Louisiana College Football Team.

Louisiana College has gotten some bad publicity lately on their football team.

I just thought I would give them something to smile about

in this 1919 team photograph.

Thanks to the Louisiana History Museum for the image.

Can you identify any of the players, the coach or the team mascot for that matter?

Enjoy!!

The war in Afghanistan ..Photo’s you will not see.

Here are a series’ of photographs from Afghanistan. They were sent to me by a civilian friend working in one of the large  outpost there.

These are what the soldiers and civilian workers live in. A  small rocket from the hills in the  background did the damage you see. Most of these hit’s are random and lucky. A lot of the munitions used by the rebels is old and sometimes a dud.

Luckly this was during a time when the occupants were working.

The only reason I am publishing this is to show the least damage they can do.

The news always shows the worst possible scene.

All the U.S. contingent has to live under these conditions.
