My take on some of the upcoming election.

As far as Public Service Commission.  Three Pro’s  battling each other.  All are professional politician’s. All three will have their hands and everything else in the feed bin the moment one of them are elected.   That job enables them all to be on the take for favorable votes when  the  companies that will have issues come up for vote, rate hikes, etc.  So in my opinion a vote for any of the three will just feather their nest even more. Check out their political contributors and supporters. Hate to say it but it’s a no win issue. Some of the other Bloggers are touting their favorite, but I do not see it that way. Any one you cast your vote for will be the same…

I am for the tax issues, most importantly the issue of the tax for upkeep of the Coliseum. I think with good management and repair it will end up placing us in a much better position than spending more millions of dollars for an even bigger fiasco  further out of town, that will probably end up like the famous Cowboy town. I firmly believe the downfall of the building has been nonexistent management for the past years.

Almost 100% of voters do not like to pass a new tax upon themselves. I believe this maintenance tax is worth while, if we hold the police jury’s nose to the grindstone  and make sure they hire good management, not just another good ole boy..

As to the other issues on their respective ballots,  I abstain from any comments..

Your opinion is important, but your vote is more so!

Since two bits won’t do the job anymore, in_the_head1that’s my 99 cents worth.

You may twitter. I will continue to communicate in a longer fashion.

I think we are ending up with too many  “trendy” gimmicks.

Ethma Odum-RIP

Ethma went to the big studio in the sky Sunday March 22, 2009. We were fans of each other and talked about our  different careers.

I will miss her loud greeting when we met in places all over town. You will not come across another like her again.

I knew her from the beginning of her career and now it is  over.  You had a great 77 year run Ethma!

Things that will soon be here.

coxcomb-red-08I admit  I am a nut when it comes to photographing  two things. Flowers and wildlife.  Not dead, but live wildlife.

One of my favorite times of the year is just about here. The flowers are about to bloom.

So I thought I would take our minds off the corruption of the every day world and post a few of my favorite flowers from last year.

I have traveled all over the world, but nothing is more majestic than our backyards in the height of spring.

These need no explanation, just enjoy. If you wish I will post a few more. Just let me know.

I just noticed, strange , my  100th  post would be about beauty and not the beast. Humm.

Alexandria tourisum and the Red River. 1932 style. Cotton Blossom riverboat.

cotton-blossom-1932-red-riverHowdy, all you nay say-ers  out there. It worked in 1932.   These were taken at the Murray Street bridge area.

The last photo shows how busy it was on a rainy, cloudy day when the river was at flood stage.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention, Louisiana History Museum! ( louisianahistorymuseum.org )

Wow!!

Look closely.., the crowd extends up to the north as well as south on the river bank…..

Wish full thinking, right?

Hey a guy can dream can’t he?

Congress, the Senators and Elected government officials. Call it as it is.

appletons_011I am sure that most of the political observers have come to this conclusion..I have thought about it many times and really do not see another way to look at it because of what is transpiring in our government today.

I  would suppose it is over simplification, but it rings so true.

For instance if you contribute $5,000 to Governor Jindal’s Campaign pocket you will probably end up with a board seat on a state regulatory, etc. board.

A like contribution to a state Congressman or Senator will net you some type of “goodwill”…

Payments to U.S. Senators or Congressmen influence the way they vote on a item near and dear to the payee’s heart.

It is an event that happens every day.

For a payment in cash or goods or consideration, a Congressman or Senator will pleasure you with what you might desire.

When a new politician achieves office, they are eager and willing to serve the people of their electorate.

After a few years they succumb to  the temptations of  their  needs and become one of the profession.

The longer an elected official serves the more hungry and needy he or she becomes.

There is a name for people who ply this type of trade. Its called the worlds oldest profession.

Instead of listening to how much experience they have or their wonderful family life, etc.

We need to take a close look at what each person stands to gain by being elected.

I think we would be better served by an amateur at the profession than an old worn out pro.

Think about that the next time you vote for some one in that voting booth.

Thats one of the reasons I like the idea of  term limits. It keeps the house with fresh merchandise.

Yes, I know here are  a few  “honest” politicians out there, but where???

I do not think there is a cure for this mess we are in other than a good house cleaning or “penicillin”, if you please.

Short post. AIG.

I wonder if any of the AIG officials will just say no to their big bonus packages?

I really don’t know if their bonus money can be taxed.            (100%)

If so everyone else who gets a bonus from the big financial groups will also have to be taxed the same amount.

I do not see a way around that idea.

You can not single out a  specific group for punishment in that way.

The dummies should have included that provision in the original bail out bill..pig2AIG Board Member.  (The character speaks for it’s self.)

But what do I know?

Audit’s and the City Council. Another chapter of the Late Night Show.

mi_krysty_251One or two of  the council members understand what  a independent  audit  is…The rest want to hire an auditor to audit the auditor and then perhaps another to do it again…

You would think a few of the clowns would  get a CPA to explain the way audits work and what a independent audit is…. I never cease to get a good laugh every time I watch Cable channel four.

I hate to say it but Mr. Fowler is the only straight man in  the comedy team. But then he runs a business as does another council member..the others pretend to be lawyers and other assorted what-evers..

We are missing the boat not franchising this and selling it to a network up north….

I am still laughing from the last episode…

The gaffe’s are never ending..

Please watch the latest episode!

Oh! My sides hurt from laughing!!

President Obama-Cause for concern.

Well we have had time to access our new president.   He is highly educated.  He is an accomplished public speaker other than his uh’s after every other sentence. But like my dear old dad who had a doctorate in speech from LSU use to say. You can be the smartest man in the world, with ten college degrees, but with out any common sense  you are a complete idiot.

At this point in time it appears the electorate has placed an idiot in office. Or perhaps we are the idiot’s.

We are going to spend more government money than any other  four years in our county’s history.  Most of it is wasteful and even borders on socialistic.

A number of the programs in the spending bill make the lower  income and less educated population more dependant on government, which means more votes for the ruling party. That pretty much locks in their vote for more welfare and less incentive to work or get an education.

The stock market is going to hit 5000 any day now, which is a 50% drop in the last almost year.

We  are throwing money at the large banking establishment’s and that is not going to improve things.

The housing market is totally screwed up.

Un-employment is at it highest in a decade.

Large chain retailers are closing weekly

And there  is more, but I will not compound your depression..

Yet we just sit back and let the people in government who should be using common sense act like idiots and encourage them.

Bush was  ineffective and made stupid moves, but Obama is proving himself to be just as bad.

I am beginning to think we did not trade  up , or  even for that matter.

Am I missing something?

Or maybe I am stupid like the rest of the folks out there?

God help us.

We don’t seem to be interested in helping our self’s…

Stock market. (It ain’t over yet.)

Years ago in the 1980′s I had a good bit of money invested in mutual funds. When the market dived, I lost a bit over 20K.

That was a hit to me like a baseball bat. I pulled what was left out and reinvested. CD’s Utilitys, etc.

Today the stock market dipped below 7000 at 6800.

I am afraid those of you who opted to stay on that track are going to discover that it ain’t over yet.

I am one of the fortunate ones, I have lost very little.

God knows where it will bottom out at.. but that 5000 mark is coming closer every day.

The sorry part is our government is not going to save it in the course they are moving in.

Most of us know that…

Our government has not a clue.

They just continue to print and toss  money in every direction.

Unbelievable is it not?
