Comment on new quarter. Example of twisted news.

The Duke Ellington coin is the third coin to feature an African-American. All were legal tender. Two were fifty cent coins… The current is a quarter. The first two featured George Washington Carver and Booker T. Washington. All  three coins are considered limited edition legal tender or commemorative coins.

The District  of Columbia quarter IS NOT  the first to feature an African-American.

Why is this deception being carried out by all the major news outlets???

It is absurdly easy to check facts.

1958 Coffee shop memories.

I fondly remember in college, sitting in a small cafe  or as it was called then, a coffee shop in a town smaller than Alexandria talking with friends about what we wanted to do with our lives when we passed into the business world.

What we wanted to accomplish, what our goals were.  How we were going to change the world.

I can account for  almost all of those boys and girls who sat with me back then.

I was one of the younger ones of the group.

One wanted to be a famous actress. She went on to become a nurse and was killed in a car wreck early on in her life.

One wanted to be a writer.  He became a traveling  salesman.  Retired to a small town in Florida where he lives today.

One guy wanted to take over his fathers Automobile dealership. He died in Vietnam.

One wanted to be a Disk Jocky. He did. Became quite famous for a while. Opened a restaurant and night club in North Carolina. He is very rich today.  Oddly enough he was born in Oakdale, but claims he was born in Texas  and has invented a tall story of his career. Called him several years ago . He was too busy to talk….

One very quiet girl was a talented artist. She could draw anything. Ended up in the french quarter in New Orleans drawing portraits for the tourist. Lost track of her. She just disappeared. Probably married and had a family.

One ended up an engineer. Never used his degree. Worked in radio   just like the other boy mentioned. Made the transition to television. Was never famous.  Acted in and directed  plays.  Did some writing..Still  active today.

Another boy was the outgoing of the bunch. Got an accounting degree. Became a used car salesman. Died of a heart attack in his early 30′s.

Another wanted to be a lawyer. He became one. Still is..

The final girl of the bunch was beautiful. Wanted to be a movie star… Actually got a few bit parts in several movies.  Married and had a nice family.

None of them wanted to change the world, but each did in their own small way.

Me?  I could be one of the above, or not..

 It’s just some random memories.

Has the world changed that much?

Alexandria Parks & Recreation Survey.

I received a  copy of this survey January 19th.

I managed to wade through  the 4 pages.

23 questions.

Wow.

What did this cost the taxpayers and who dreamed it up?

I venture to say that less than 20% will be returned and most of them will be half filled out.. if at all.

The survey could have been simplified to get a good return.

As one of the questions asked, on a scale of 1 to 7 what they thought of 16 statements.  One being the best,  to seven being the worst…

I give the entire survey a resounding 7.

It’s what I call complicating something simple.

What happened to yes or no.

need or dont need

now or later?

If you get the survey, read it and let me know what you think.

I think we need more security and better maintenance and clean up of our existing parks. Most of which are used mainly on weekends, then trashed..

OR

Perhaps we do need spray pads.. (throw in a few broken bones and law suits along with them.)

What do I know?

Investment 101..Gold & Silver.

I really do not know why I am writing this, but after seeing the flurry of bull shit TV advertising  that  now is the best time to invest in gold, I have to say this.

You buy or invest in gold when it is priced at 300 to 500 dollars an ounce, not when it is almost $1000 per ounce.

Also you buy silver at $2.00 to $6.00 not at 12 to 15 dollars per ounce.

If you sell to these people who advertise and say  mail in  your gold jewelry or silver, they will pay you approx  1/3  of its current market value.

In other words they will skin you and nail your carcass to the fence.

Now is not the time to buy or invest in precious metals..

Now is the time to sell, but to a reputable local buyer.

Be sure you know the market value going into the deal.

(It fluctuates from day to day.)

The buyer will have to have probably  3+ points for his expenses and profit.

The price spread is up to you and the buyer to decide on. Remember he has to make a profit on the deal and also has shipping expenses to absorb when he mails it to the melting point.

Do not fall for now is the time to buy..It will place you in the brainless side of the deal.

40th Annual So Rare Antique Show & Sale.

Alex attended the 40th Antique  show at the Coliseum exhibit building today, Friday. …If  150 people passed through the door’s it would surprise me.

Here we have a premiere antique show with something for everyone and attendance was next to zero.

It will continue tomorrow and Sunday. With the support the Pineville rebel club gets from our community, I would not be surprised if this will not be the last one. It truly shows that our community is not interested in supporting any thing associated with culture or  class.

Yet I am more than sure there will be record turnout for the monster truck waste of time noise fest…Or as someone said to me, “Redneck chest thumping”

Final Sunday score in Town Talk:        Red Neck Trucks …3/4 of a page story.  BIG TRUCKS…

Antique Show:  2 photographs at the top of a page, near the middle…

Sad, sad, sad.

Mayor’s press conference on cable channel 4, worth watching!

Now if you want to watch someone intelligently anwser questions from the press try to catch Mayor Roy’s talk on channel 4.  He is patient and answers all the questions straightforward. Quite a bit of difference between his approach and the city council’s attention deficit.

You can say all you want, but I admire him for being patient and not going ballistic. I do believe he is trying to do an honest job.

Everyone in the mayor’s office is coperative and the people I have delt with are intelligent and attentive to reasonable request.

Thats just the picture I get. Yours may be much different. How he wades through all the bull shit is beyond me.

Local cable company . {Stupid commercials}

After being forced to watch these stupid commercials on cable, when ever I tune from Chanel to Chanel.

I have decided from their approach everyone in Central Louisiana is of sub-intelligence. A nauseating bowling with meat commercial, operating on a nat.  And a leisure suit type telling us mombo-jumbo unsubstantiated facts on independent local TV advertising.

Call and complain about this insult to your intelligence. I for one am tired of them!

And guess what?     They have added even more of the insulting things!

To me it says they think we are too stupid  to view anything promoting them  with the intelligence above a monkeys .

Define Cleco Rebate! (Big bag of money!)

OK, the city will get a big bag of money  in the Cleco settlement. There is talk of a rebate. If there is any kind of rebate it should be a credit to the existing  utility bills. Pay down some of the deadbeat utility bills and give credit to those of us who pay their bills every month, on time and in full.   Do not dangle a six pack and  some dope in front of  probably 1/8 +  of the population in the form of a cash rebate, please!

Councilmen, do not use this issue for political gain!

I am sure that 50%  + of the council will favor a cash rebate   to get more votes when election time comes around again….
