Noose Question?

I sometimes wonder about the equal scales of Justice. Two young under educated boys display several crude makeshift noose hanging off the tailgate of their truck. Get the literal full wrath of the law condemning them and they are punished. (The boys probably put little if any thought to their actions .)

Then again two young men  in California hangs an image of Gov. Palin from a noose in front of their  home and its a Halloween display. ( these two put thought and planning into their action.)   Investigated and no crime has been committed.

No political implications, just the noose question…

Any of you lawyers who read this, have a opinion?

What am I missing here???

The Presidential Race. No favorites.

Rose colored glasses just do not  work in  this presidential campaign.

I have put on several dozen pair and looked at both contenders carefully.

I am probably one of the very few people who can say truthfully that I am undecided. All I can see is the  weak points of each candidate.   I also see the so called strong points but  It’s really hard to sort them out with all the perveted press slobbering over them like rabid dogs….

I try to look at it as who would be the best, but every time I do …all the  negative points pop up like targets in a shooting gallery at a carnival.. I normally am not a negative person.

In my other life I have accomplished a lot of things..Every  goal I set I usually achieve. I am highly focused and not naive in business or politics. I understand what each personality says they might or might not do. But, as I have said in earlier posts, I have worked with and know a number of politicians. I know full well each and every one of them has a split personality..(That is the nature of the beast.)

They have their own unpublished agenda.

I have read the blogs of others.  They gleefully tout the virtues of their respective favorites. And trumpet like bull elephants the vices of their unfavored.

I truly feel as I have said before this thing is nothing more than a personality contest. A beauty pagent at best. I truly hope the right contestant walks the runway after the pagent is over….

We will not feel the full brunt of our current economic problems in Central Louisiana for a while.  It takes a while to ripple down.  I feel its going to be more like a tidal wave to a lot of business.

We need responsible government, not higher or lower taxes.

We need better policing of the medical and pharmaceutical company’s. Not regulation.

The stock market rides a pogo stick  now and will for a while.  There is no real solution to it. As it has in the past…It will adjust itself and  move slowly back up. It is a beast that will not die.

But as always it will run roughshod for a while.

Obama..McCain ????  Who knows? I do see some rough waves ahead though. I do know one will be a worse choice than the other, BUT which one???

No matter what color you paint the Donkey or the Elephant, we are in trouble…I think they are both grey as far as I can see.

Someone convince me with something I haven’t heard before…

And I will promise not to babble about this again.

Rapides Parish Coliseum

A friend of mine religiously wrote a letter to the editor in the Town Talk every year for almost the past five years about the lack of management and filthy condition of the coliseum, the craters in the parking lot and stench and backed up toilets in the bathrooms. The run down appearance…To no avail….But wait…..SURPRISE!!!

All of a sudden it’s become an issue.. Is it close to election time for some of  the slackers on the Police Jury???  I attended one of the meetings and it was amusing to watch. But to their dubious credit, they did form a  panel to investigate what everyone else knew years ago…(smattering of feeble applause)

I am glad that at least now they have admitted to the lax way it has been maintained…After they were literally slapped in the face with it, several times!

But was this not their obligation to oversee this building in the first place? Lets not pin a gold star on their respective shoulders yet.. They were responsible in  many ways for the facility becoming as it is today. Despite the many warnings they were given that they ignored in the past… There is a lot of chest beating going on right now..

BUT WILL ANYTHING CONCRETE BE ACCOMPLISHED???   (hopefully the parking lot ) No pun intended.

At least they are not for dumping 30 to 40 million  for something that in the end will be inferior to what we now have…I am sure they can get some grants….. if not a majority for its repair…..But lets clean house completely and literally, management on down…..

Talk is cheap.

Roosevelt Johnson on the Bentley.

Because it will take a certain effort on the part of the city of Alexandria to reopen the Bentley and I think that that is a necessary for progress and for tourism in Central Louisiana to make a concerned effort to reopen the Hotel as a multi-use facility. It will take certain tax concessions to make it happen…I feel you should give serious thought to the re-election of Mr. Johnson as a Councilman at large.  Please refer to the provided link for his words on the subject. I feel that he is NOT supporting the project whole-heartedly.. (or perhaps at all.)

On the City Parks..

So…. it will take, or did take  a study of almost one hundred thousand dollars to figure out the city’s parks need better and bigger restrooms. Stronger and safer swings and rides. Many, many waste receptacles.. A large fine for littering. Posting some type of security guard during peak hours on the weekend. Large drinking fountains…Several shade pavilions.. Logical  provisions that even the dumbest person understands will make any park safer and better..BUT..we need a study for that… (please!)

But wait, lets add water spray areas…at astronomical price tags. Spray parks that will forever need maintenance..Broken valves..intentional stopping up.. They will last maybe one summer season before the city will give up in disgust. They are an open invitation for vandalism…

Boy are we being taken to the cleaners on this deal….I see no other scenario but the one I have painted…What a waste of taxpayer money that could be used for common sense improvement.

Wow, I am astounded…I think I will comission a study to find out why I feel that way.

Presidental Election

I have listened to ..or watched both debates so far.  The only  thing they have done for me is just make me sick at my stomach!  Never have I seen our country and its people so disenchanted by what is going on.

Here we have two candidates from our major political parties in essence scared to death of taking any firm positive stance on any issue what-so-ever. George Washington, Abe Lincoln and several other past presidents are spinning in their graves..And to top it off Congress and the Senate have just snatched almost a Trillion dollars out of the taxpayers pocket to pay for the mistakes of some very stupid CEO’s.. Throw money at it is their way of solving that problem. We should be mad as hell and going after the people responsible for this debacle. Instead we let our Legislators pad the 700 Billion dollar crime with absurd things like raising the FDIC limit to 250 thousand dollars for depositors.oink, oink, oink….Guess who will pay for that? YOU.

Do you think these idiots will attempt to do anything without feathering their re-election nests? (of course they will not)

We have one candidate who is a lifelong politician. Well versed in the Washington game.Odds are he may not make it through his 4 year tenure if elected. His age is a major factor. If elected he will walk into office at least knowing what he is suppose to do. But he is no different than his opponent…

The other is a very young man with little experience under his belt and ties to some very contestable friends. (No matter how you look at it he is associated with them,…period.)

I have heard some of the most asinine reasons for him not being connected with them…

They were his friends, how in the hell do you ignore that? He associated with them. His voting record is weak at best.

One will lower taxes while the other will raise them.

One will socialize medicine while the other will go along with the present flow.

The list of pro’s and con’s for each candidate is endless…

One will increse the welfare state while the other may not..

One is for gun control, while the other is not.

One will raise the capitol gains tax, while the other may not.

All they can do is propose. Congress and the Senate in the end make the final decision, if they can get enough pig feed in the deal..

Who do I vote for??? Can anyone paint a sane picture of this campaign? I really think a lot of people think as I do.  Do ya ever get that helpless feeling, like you are in a room full of insane clowns?

Any one want to try to convince me I’m wrong??? Please!

Election Saturday October 4th.

I am not going to recommend any one person. I must remind you that voter turnout for a local election is abysmal at best. Too few people take the time or effort to go to the poll’s and vote. I will remind you that it only takes a few minutes of your time. The city council and the city Marshall are two of the subjects that need to be addressed. Who you vote for is your business. I will remind you that everyone has been complaining about the bickering in the council. We need new blood. Different opinions and outlooks.

I suggest you make the decision to vote for new  and different person’s this time around. Lets make a change and get rid of the incumbents. You make your decision and vote for whom you wish,,,But remember the fiasco’s of the past before you do.

I think we will be better served by change…

A few random thoughts.

I enjoy writing this blog for a number of reasons. I feel it brings a few issues to the fore front that need to be discussed. Some of you do so. I am not a political person to any great degree.

I do take side’s  some time that perhaps are good or bad in you the reader’s opinion.

I have been involved  in politics in the past. (both noble and gutter type.)   As has anyone who cares about their community to any extent. But I have never aspired to run for any office or ever will…

With out giving up my true identity, I will say a few things about myself.

I would hope that those who know my identity will keep it to themselves.

I value my privacy and have my cause to follow.

I have over 30 years media experience….successfully in all different types……I have been out of that for many years.

I am a business person and a scholar, but I do not teach school.

I was born and raised here in Alexandria. I care about this area devotedly.

I try not to take what are termed radical views..I value my friendship with all I know.

I will call a dog a dog or a bastard a bastard.

I come from German and Planter French stock. There is a small town in Louisiana named after my great-great Uncle on my fathers side.

My great grandfather on my mothers side was the manager of one of our local premier plantations of the past.

I have nothing to gain with politics and have turned down the opportunity to peruse that in the past.

So do not assume in any way that I am going to take sides on any local issue unless there is stupidity involved.

I know a lot of folks in Central Louisiana and more than I know ….know me.

If you wish to express your opinion on some of my comments, please do so. But lets not be mean spirited about it. I enjoy a spirited debate as much as some other people.

I may infer, which is sometimes the best way to handle things. But I will lay out some groundwork for my inference.

After all this means of communication can be helpful or harmful.. personally, I would hope it is helpful to some extent..

So that’s another rant…or rave off my chest…For what it’s worth !
