This is just an out loud question. I have a friend who called the Town Talk News editor three days ago.
He left a very polite call asking the editor to please call him back. He also left his name, position and number.
Now either the editor is out of town on a business trip or on vacation. Because three days + have gone by and no return call.
My question is how the paper get’s significant local news story’s when they don’t return calls. And I hear that newspapers are in difficult times now.
The sad part is that a reporter interviewed my friend about his story more than three weeks ago and it is an important event….No story, No returned call.
It is an educational and an event related story that has an impact on the community.
He is still waiting for the returned call.. I have been told of other people who have had the same experience.
I told him, its just an oversight. But who knows…

Newspapers are a dying breed…maybe the folks at the TT haven’t realized that yet. These days, with their online papers, they don’t even have to report “real” news…they’ve given away their job to the citizens, or readers, who typically post useless garbage, and its fills up the newspaper’s website. Most readers are no better qualified to report news than I am, and I’m pretty useless when it comes to journalism.
Newspapers are headed to the junk heap along with elevator operators, travel agents, pay phone booths, and floppy diskettes…all outmoded by technology, and the times…and in the TT’s case, just plain lack of payin attention!!

Welll….I have to first start off by saying that an unreturned phone call is my biggest pet peeve. I have a suggestion for your friend, all her has to do is write a letter, make sure you throw a random controversial name in there, or two, and you are bound to get more attention than you want.
You can leave a message for the editor as follows: “Hello, this is ___, I am calling you about the story..Bridget Brown….you interviewed me for almost…Rob Ratcliff….two weeks ago. I would like to discuss…Louis Marshall…this with you.” That is bound to get a call back. They will want to know how it all ties in!
