We have a fantastic tourism base here in Central Louisiana.
I believe that those that live here should go out of their way to promote it.
Some of the attractions depend upon state money to survive, to stay in operation.
We have the oldest plantation home in Louisiana, the Kent house located here.
It has high volume attendance almost every day. Weekly events for children and adults.
Also the other museum’s in Alexandria have events. They in some cases charge a small fee. But it takes more than that to survive. They need state funds to operate. To pay some of their staff and to run their planned educational events.
I really don’t know what the underlying reason for Governor Jindals veto of the bills that fund these places is.
I just know it hurt’s the momentum we have built up for tourism when of places of history have to cut back.
Education and history go hand in hand. We need to shout loud and long about this slap in the face to Central Louisiana’s tourism and education…..
